Briefly summarize how BP-AMOCO supports knowledge sharing, and then discuss what lesson(s) you learn from this case.
The Article is a fantastic explination of how Knowledge management can be used to accelerate the way a business can use it's knowledge resources like how BP uses a voluntary corporate Yellow Pages system, dubbed Connect, as the platform for making networks (known more commonly as communities of practice) visible. These Networks of people can be used in many ways from being a personal site for the employee that they can list accomplishments and abilities and some are classified as Delivery Networks and have budgets and responsibilities for delivering a product or result at the end of the year. To help them achieve their goals, Delivery Networks are equipped with a performance contract, including a budget, between the network and a senior leader who acts as a sponsor to advise and assist them.
BP uses the wide aray of what KM can do and it uses this to gain a competative advantage over their competition.
